Wednesday night meeting on #2 court

Wednesday night meeting: We want everyone to come to discuss second court and land purchase so we can develop a proposal for vote at a later date. The objective is to come up with creative ideas and support for a second court. It is not a vote or detailed formal proposal. It is not for people to shoot holes in process and  argue against expansion. That can come at formal proposal and voting stage. Our club has many people and many view points which will be expressed in the process at some point. Wednesday night is about how to succeed and what resources we need. This topic to propose a second court and buy land is a very important and exciting opportunity. Come with your ideas and tough questions so we can create a strong proposal with proper backing. Thanks, Greg.

PS this needs to be positive event.

All invited Wed., Jan. 18 at 6:30 pm

Next Wednesday at the paddle hut we are having a meeting to discuss a #2 court and ask people to lend money to the club at a good rate. We already have a good number of people willing and able. The focus of meeting will be to discuss new court and develop ways to pay for it over time. There is large support for second court and court #1 has become extremely busy. Please come with your ideas and support. The meeting is to discuss Land and court #2. After we have a game plan we will submit to club/board for a vote. Thanks to our on-going membership drive lead by Bill Dignan we are now in a place to consider expansion. BYOB. Come enjoy the growth of the club! Note the topic is specific to expansion of second court and land. Thank you, hope to see you there! Greg.

YPTC Ladies Drop-In

Ladies, Let’s try 4:30 to 6:00 on Wednesday, Jan. 11 for a drop-in, round robin evening of paddle fun. If some of us bring some food and another bunch bring drinks, those who aren’t playing will be enjoying watching the paddle from inside our lovely warming hut. If you have friends who’d like to see what YPTC is like, bring them along. If we have a lot of people, we’ll play 4 games, then rotate. Otherwise, we’ll probably play no-ad sets. Thanks, Sally

Greetings and Happy New Year

The thermometer is dropping and paddle play is warming up. December was the best month yet for activity at York Paddle Tennis Club. We had many successful group events, cocktail parties, Friday night get-togethers in the hut, and ten new members to call for games.

Once again I am inviting you to come try this great aerobic game of paddle. In today’s’ 24 degree temps, players had an invigorating workout and retired to the hut after a real workout that is the best way to enjoy winter.

Open Play Paddle Invitation, Saturday, December 17

Greetings to all paddle tennis players and possible players. This Saturday the York Paddle Tennis Club on Mill Lane will once again be hosting open play from 10AM to noon. All interested players are encouraged to join us for another spirited set or two of paddle tennis. Player turnout has been consistently good for this event. Hope you will try to join us.

Due to an injury, there will be no 9-10 AM beginners’ clinic with Bill. Clinics will resume December 31. Keep talking up the great game of paddle because there are now seven folks in line for clinics.

DECEMBER Newsletter

YPTC CHRISTMAS PARTY Saturday, December 17th,  from 4-6 at the paddle hut.  If you want to, bring something yummy and special libation. You will warmed up with chili and eggnog.  Eat, Play, Lob.  Hope you can make it.

Activity at the paddle facility has picked up dramatically since Thanksgiving. The court reservations are increasing as are the number of club events.

The newest club event is Women’s Paddle Drop-In. They had a gorgeous day Sunday for play. Sally will be scheduling another get together after Christmas. Watch for the emails and make it a point to take advantage of this good play opportunity at a variety of times this winter.  (RSVP is helpful.)

Thursday 6-9 is men’s night organized by Pete Lewis and Dave Carley. The theme this week is “Dead and Red”. Bring your steak or sausage and favorite libation and expect some challenging paddle. There will be a different food theme for each week.

Tuesday night Tricia Fox has been teaching a very popular paddle clinic for the Parks and Rec. Once again we will be getting new members from her yeoman efforts. Tricia installed the Christmas wreath and decorations several weeks ago. Thank you, Tricia.

Saturday morning drop in play from 10:00 to 12:00 has been well attended this year by members, new members and possible new members. Join us sometime for a rousing set or two and meet the new members and guests.

The Saturday introductory paddle play from 9:00 to 10:00 with Bill Dignan has provided a number of possible new members the chance to get a very elementary lesson and to play some paddle. If you know anyone who might like to try paddle, please have them contact Bill at bdignan@masiello.com. We welcome all new players.

Let’s welcome these new members.  Please invite them out for a game.  Contact info is in the Member Area on the website.

Paddle Tennis Newsletter November 2011

Greetings Paddlers,

The 2012 paddle season is here.  We are hoping for another very active year ahead for everyone.

This Friday night, November 18, from 6-9, we are planning a pot luck supper with plenty of good paddle for members and guests. We hope you can join us for fun paddle and good company. Please confirm with Sally or Bill.

The October 29th open house was well attended in spite of the freak snow storm that hit that night. Initiated, organized and led by Tricia Fox, this event raised $500 for the York Food Pantry.  Great job and thanks to all who showed up and contributed to this wonderful cause.

November 3rd was the first men’s night for the season. We had 12 players and guests for dogs, beer and paddle. This weekly event was a huge success last year and will certainly be a fun evening again this year. Guys, keep this challenging paddle night in your plans for this season. Contact Pete Lewis if you have questions.

We are looking to organize a weekly ladies event.  If you have interest in helping or playing, please contact Sally.

Saturday morning from 9AM to 10AM, Bill Dignan is running an introduction to paddle clinic for new members and folks who want to try the game.  If you want to join in please contact Bill to reserve a slot in the session. Turnout has been good and we are expecting this to continue through January at least.

Saturday morning from 10AM to noon, there will be open play for members and guests. This past Saturday 9 players and guests played in this round robin event. Several players stayed afterwards for more paddle. If you would like to join in please contact  Sally or Bill. We are looking to provide weekly activity for both men and women players looking for a good competitive game.

The York Parks and Rec Department’s calendar is offering introductory lessons again on Tuesday nights, Nov. 15 to Dec. 20.  A few members are volunteering to help Tricia coach the program.

Dan McCormick, top paddle instructor in New England will be back again for clinics early this year. Dates will be posted in paddle club for sign up.

Looking for a even better season in 2012,

The York Paddle Club membership committee.

Starting YPTC season with a bang

Dear Members, family and friends of the York Paddle Tennis Club,

We are so pleased to announce that we are hosting our annual benefit for the York Food Pantry on Saturday, October 29 from 4:00 to 7:30.

Now is a great time to make a difference in the upcoming holidays for the York families who are struggling. Your donation will be met with great gratitude. Through a notice in the newspapers, we are inviting the public to join us in our efforts. And, besides taking donations, we will also have apple bobbing, round robin play, possibly a 20-minute beginner’s clinic, refreshments and — weather permitting — a bonfire with S’mores.

Please come again this year; many of us attended last year’s event and it was a huge success. So mark your calendars, bring your donations, your rackets and your friends.

Lastly, please, volunteer to bring refreshments for ourselves and our guests.

Costumes are encouraged and we may have a prize or two for the most creative.

This will be a really fun event and a great way to kick off the season.

Call Tricia Fox 363 1767 or Sally Sulloway 363 0042, with any questions or comments.

Thanks!
